Before being signed to LDH, Dream was managed by avex trax. In 2008, after Hasebe Yu left the group, the group left avex trax and signed with the indie record label Rhythm REPUBLIC. In 2009, the group signed with the major label rhythm zone, the label they stayed with until their disbandment in July 2017.
The group changed their name three times: dream (2000-2007), DRM (2007-2008) and their last name Dream (2009-2017).
At their debut Matsumuro Mai was the group's leader. After Matsumuro left and six members were added, Tachibana Kana became the leader. After Kana left, in 2011, Shizuka replaced her as the leader until January 2014, when Ami became the leader until the group's disbandment.
Shizuka, Aya and Ami are the members who were part of the group for the longest period: 14 years, while Ai Risa was the member who stayed the least: one year and ten months.
Out of all members, only Hasebe Yu and Erie did not debut as solo singesr. Hasebe focused on acting, and Erie launched a career as a DJ.
Ami was also the first member of E-girls to have a solo career.
Their best selling album is Dear..., while the mini-album DRM is their lowest.
As of July 2023, three songs of the group were not released in any of their CD releases: "Lady soldier", "I WISH YOU ~Egao no Loop~" and "To you...".[N 1]
"Lady soldier" and "I WISH YOU ~Egao no Loop~" were first performed at the Dream Live Tour 2010 ~Road to Dream~. "I WISH YOU ~Egao no Loop~" was also used as the second screening song in the vocal section of the EXILE Presents VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 3 ~For Girls~.
"To you..." was used as theme song of the drama Meitantei Conan Drama Special Kudo Shinichi e no Chousenjou ~Kaichou Densetsu no Nazo~, and was released as a Chaku-Uta ringtone on April 13, 2011, being available only digitally.
From 2005 to 2008, the girls' activities seemed to involve as much sports as music. Their former group name is the namesake of TEAM dream, a futsal team often in competition with Gatas Brilhantes H.P., and DRM's full roster helped populate the team's ranks, with key members playing prominent positions. The team dissolved in April 2008.
"Dreaming Girls" was supposed to get a proper CD release as the group's 24th single,[1] but this release was cancelled and the song was released as a digital single instead. The song was later released physically on December 28, 2011 as one of the b-sides of E-girls' debut single "Celebration!", together with its instrumental and music video. This was the only release of Dream as a 5-member group.
Aya was E-girls' leader from November 2014 until July 2017.
Sayaka was an E-girls member for only 4 months after the group's debut. She only participated in their debut single "Celebration!".
On June 16, 2015, Kana posted on her Instagram account a picture of the original 3-member dream lineup celebrating the group's 15th anniversary.[2]
The remaining three members of the group announced their disbandment on June 5, 2017 (effectively happening on July 16), but they kept the group's name in their stage names (Dream Shizuka, Dream Aya, Dream Ami).
According to Ami, Dream was the older sister group among several other groups, and they were told by the office to "keep everyone together". So, in order to have a sense of commonality, they set rules and took the lead.[3]
Even after the group's disbandment, the members have been meeting each other regularly in private and celebrate the group's debut anniversary together.[4]
